German-language Worship Service

The 2009 German-American Festival German Worship Service (Gottesdienst in deutscher Sprache) will be held at the Festival grounds, Oak Shade Grove, 3624 Seaman Road, Oregon, OH on Sunday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m.

This beautiful service will be led by Pastor James Van Brussel, Interim Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church, Williston, OH.  Members of the Toledo-area German-American community will serve as readers.

A 100-voice massed chorus will participate made up of voices of the local German and Swiss choruses: the Teutonia Männerchor and Damenchor and the Toledo Swiss Singers.  The liturgy and hymns will be in German; however the Sermon, by Pastor Van Brussel, will be in English.

Additionally, we are honored to have the 50 voices of the Chorgemeinschaft Texas participating in the service.    The Chorgemeinschaft consists of singers from German singing societies throughout Texas.  They have taken tours throughout Europe and North America.

Admission to this Service is free and those attending will be admitted free to the German-American Festival.  Coffee and rolls, courtesy of Tim Hortons, will be available after the Service, encouraging all to stay and enjoy the ‘gemütlichkeit’ of the Festival.

Members of local church choirs are encouraged to participate and should arrive a half-hour before the Service for instruction.
